Mother’s Day Service

Message given at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Sunday May 13, 2018

In this message we did a character study of Mary and her motherly interactions with her son Jesus.  Many women may initially think they could never measure up to the greatness of Mary.  After all, she was picked out of all the women on the earth, throughout all the vastness of time to raise God’s only begotten son.   However, I believe many mothers today and throughout the centuries exhibit some of the same faith, love, and devotion towards their own children that Mary had toward Jesus.  They may walk closer in her footsteps than they realize!

Mt. Olivet is the church I grew up in and the place where my parents still attend and serve.  It was an honor to have the opportunity to share this message with my Mom, my Granny and many of the other mothers in the church who had a role in building my faith throughout the years.

Be Careful for Nothing

Message given at The Bridge Church Columbus on Sunday August 12, 2017.

In this message we look at a few aspects on how to live a care free life and the benefits of not letting anxiety rule our thoughts.   In several places Scripture gives us instruction on not worrying or being fretful.  We look at the Apostle Paul’s example and how he was able to live this way and also at the instructions he gives in his letters on how to follow this Biblical principle.  When we are able to cast off worry and not let it control our thoughts we are in a better position to hear God and get his instructions for the situation that we face.

The verses we look at hear are Philippians 4:4-6 and 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18:

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

-Philippians 4:4-6

Rejoice always,  pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

-1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

God is With Us

Message given at The Bridge Church Columbus on Sunday July 16, 2017.

In this message we look at the issue of living like God is with us and for us at all times.  Most likely, if asked, we would all say we  believe God is with us and for us but if the Holy Spirit asked us if we lived and acted that way all the time our answers would probably be less sure.

We study the depth at which God sees us and how he know us and our situations better than we do.  He not only sees us but sees what’s happening inside of us and what is happening around us.  We can trust him to be there for us in every situation in life and to help us and strengthen us to overcome.

The two verses we look at in this message are Romans 8:31 and Isaiah 41:10:

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”

– Romans 8:31

“Fear not, for I am with you;  be not dismayed, for I am your God;  I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

– Isaiah 41:10

Message spoken to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Willisburg, KY on Sunday April 3, 2016

I was very excited and thankful to be able to preach last Sunday at Mt. Olivet.  Being the following weekend after Resurrection Sunday I felt led to go on with the chronological events and take a Scripture from the day of Pentecost.  The focus text was Acts 2:14-21 as we talked about the new age that had been ushered in by Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection and how that affects the way God interacts with each of us now in these last days.  Thanks to Bro. Joe Lumbrix who allowed me to fill in for him while he is on mission and to my Mom who is always looking for an opportunity for me to come home and preach.
